Path of Exile Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to upgrade their weapons and equipment with new affixes, boosting its stats base or providing additional benefits. To upgrade an item level upgrade, the player needs to have it in their inventory as well as access to the kiln.

Typically objects with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a stronger base, whereas items with strong bases such as eth titans aren't affected in their stats following being upgraded.

Upgrade components

Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They give you an attribute bonus or an additional benefit, while the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, retrieved as loot by enemies, or received from missions and chests. Certain upgrades come with additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require that the equipment be above a certain point before they can be upgraded.

In order to upgrade the quality of a weapon or piece armor, the player has to choose it and click the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. The screen will show on the right-hand side of the screen a preview showing the expected upgrade stats and the necessary component or materials.

There are three types of upgrade components: universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be placed on any type of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade components that have a specific type restriction. Infusions, which can only be placed in ascended gear or legendary equipment are similar to jewels but provide larger bonuses and cannot be placed in any other equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add the suffix at the end of item names. For example the addition of a Glyph will transform a staff wrapping of Minor Vigor a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.

In the case of upgrades to gather tools when a player swaps one glyph with a different one the previous glyph will be returned to the inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component will damage it, except for inscriptions which can be freely swapped.

Leveling

The upgrade system in Path of Exile has some important differences from previous versions. Gear is now categorised in tracks, and each item can only be upgraded as many times before it's "leveled out." The cost of upgrading is increased with each level however, the materials needed do not increase as much. This allows players to concentrate their efforts on a handful of key items and maximize their impact rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across multiple items.

This allows the item to receive upgraded components and a greater chance of success. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Energy and it will reset to zero in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

After a piece has been upgraded to the maximum level, it can receive affixes to boost its attributes. The amount of affixes available is determined by the item's class. For instance an uncommon or rare weapon that has a standard base will only have two affixes for it, while a legendary armor will have up to eight affixes for it.

Each upgrade will require a specific amount of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the item upgrader mod is at its current level and what slot it is in. Typically, weapons require more Flightstones to upgrade than other kinds of equipment.

If an item fails to get to its maximum level The NPC will offer players the option to transfer it to another character and re-infuse it with another set of upgrades. This process can take up to two hours and will cost the same amount of materials however it will have lower chances of success.

Engineers may use a level in order to compare the height of the building with a known location, such as an existing benchmark. This process is called a "level loop." It involves taking readings using the backsight rod and the level before turning the level to make the foresight rod reading. This method ensures that buildings are built to a high standard of safety and accuracy.

Rerolling

Rerolling refers to the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is an important aspect of the game and can drastically enhance an item upgrade's strength or damage, as well as other attributes. This can be accomplished through the item menu or by clicking the Reroll button on an upgraded item. Rerolling items can be costly and should be used sparingly.

Reroll tokens are obtained by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item or an similar item. Recyclable items have an indicator that indicates the level of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled depends on the rarity and the upgrade cost of the item.

Sets

Another reason for upgrading certain items is to bring them into the same level with their tiers. For instance the Immortal King set has a vast range of levels, ranging from 29 to 76. Upgrades to lower-level items could improve their defense, and make them more competitive in terms of damage.

To determine if a product is worth upgrading, players must click the Upgrade button in the character screen. The attributes of the item upgrader mod will be displayed together with any required items. To upgrade the No-mouth face for example, 1.1K Scrap Materials will be required, along with 250 Enchanted Dust and 5 Glowing Shards. Alternatively, players can visit the Leaderboard or Golden vendor in Cyrodiil to find out the upgrade requirements of specific items.

In general, weapons and jewelry offer greater value for trading when fully upgraded than armor. Especially for weapons that have damage glyphs for spells or weapons, upgrading them to gold is recommended since it will provide a significant improvement in their stats. This will also boost the defense of armor with an updated look.
